April 15, 2010 —National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is April 18 - 25. Cibola General Hospital is staffed by, a combined, 1 Pathologist, 9 registered technologists and technicians and 4 phlebotomists, in addition to support staff. Ninety percent of this testing is performed onsite in the hospitals' laboratory with results quickly available to physicians.

“Lab Week” builds awareness about the laboratory’s role in patient care. Some 70-80% of medical decisions that physicians make are based on test results from a laboratory. "Lab Week" celebrates the dedicated professionals who are often the 'behind-the-scenes' members of a laboratory team. Pathologists collaborate with their fellow clinicians, laboratory technologists, technicians, phlebotomists, and other members of the health care team, regarding wellness, the diagnosis of illness, and the treatment of disease.
