Hospital Asks Community to Support Mil Levy
GRANTS, NM - The healthcare challenges in Cibola County are well known. Many community members are uninsured or underinsured – and all the while the cost of providing quality care continues to increase. This fall, Cibola General Hospital is reaching out to community members to ask them once again to vote in support of the Mil Levy.
“The Mil Levy is not a new tax,” says Chief Executive Officer, Michael Makosky. “Voting for the Mil Levy is just a continuation of providing support to the hospital to provide much needed services for our families.”
Since the late 1980’s, the Mil Levy has been voted on and passed by Cibola County residents every 8 years. It costs $4.25 in property taxes for every $1,000 of assessed property value.
The money from the Mil Levy is used to provide services and update equipment. “Your community hospital is the place where your children are born, where you go for tests and surgery, where you go when you’re injured or ill, and where you’re cared for by familiar faces,” says Ida Chavez, Board of Trustees Chair. “We are reaching out to the community and asking for their support to continue to provide excellent care.”
Ballots will be mailed out by the County Clerk’s office to all registered voters sometime after September 7. Unlike most elections, this ballot will come to homes. All voters need to do is complete it and put it in the provided postage-paid return envelope, and drop it in the mail before October 4, 2011.
